Salisbury University - Salisbury, Maryland June 17 - 20
Registration begins at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday in the breezeway at the end of Chesapeake Hall. Park in the parking lot right along route 13. While attire for the weekend is casual, quartets might want to bring an outfit for the show. There will be shows both Friday night and Saturday night. Quartets - Don't forget to send in your biographical sketch and to copy Ron on your application. Dinner Thursday and Breakfast Sunday will NOT be provided. Please bring soap and a drinking cup. You might also want to bring a pillow. Towels and bed linens (and HARD pillow) will be provided.
CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Music Theory 1 - Friday ONLY - max of 40 students
Want to study the fundamentals of music theory? This class will cover: lines and spaces, Major and Natural Minor Key Signatures, Major Scales, Natural Minor Scales, and Intervals.

Music Theory 3 - Friday ONLY - 40 per class
This class will assume knowledge of Theory 2 and will cover: Diatonic 7 th. Chords and their Inversions, Secondary Dominant 7th Chords and their Inversions, Primary Resolutions, Basic Harmonic Analysis, Secondary Resolutions,and Altered 7th Chords.

Beginning Arranging
Prerequisite - Music Theory 3 or equivalent. You will be introduced to the harmonization of an easy barbershop song.

Intermediate/Advanced Arranging
Prerequisite- Beginning Arranging or equivalent.

Beginning Directing
Begin developing the basic skills necessary to be a chorus director-posture, down beats and cut-offs (with the preparation beat), conducting patterns, etc.

Intermediate (or Advanced) Directing
Discuss developing your own style, directing techniques, rehearsal techniques, the importance of sound directing fundamentals, etc. Get some coaching on "arm-waving" techniques.

Vocal Techniques - 4 classes each day - max 25 per class
So you'd like to sing better. Here is your opportunity to learn from some of the best vocal production men in the Society. You will get individual tips on how to improve your singing. This class can be used toward director certification.

Marketing Your Chorus
Discuss how to find performance opportunities, corporate sponsorship, communitiy arts programs, etc.

Coaching Apprentice
Observe some of the finest coaches in the business as they work with choruses and quartets. There will be a meeting on Thursday evening for all apprentices and coaches to go over the agenda, introduce the coaches and their specialties, and allow the coaches to suggest guidelines they would like to use during the coaching sessions. The quartet coaching grids will be issued at this meeting.

Now What Do I Do With This Song?
In this class you'll discuss how to take a song from "scratch" and decide how to handle it vocally, visually, emotionally. You'll develop a plan and discuss some rehearsal techniques to help members of the group perform the song to the plan.

Forming a Quartet
This class will advise you on how to select the proper voice matching, how to get along with three other guys and how to create your performance package. There will be hands-on experience in this class and a quartet will be formed to perform on the show the evening of the class.

Arranger Seminar
Have you ever written an arrangement and wished you could sit down for an hour with a real expert to get some advice? Well, here's your chance! Dr. Burt Szabo will meet with arrangers one-at-a-time for an hour during both afternoon sessions. Contact Ron Knickerbocker to set up an appointment.

Emceeing
Learn the responsibilities of a Master of Ceremonies or "front man" for your chorus or quartet. Get some practice by introducing one of the performing groups at the Friday or Saturday night shows.

Tune It Or Die!

Learn some of the fine points of tuning different chords in the barbershop vocabulary.

How To Be a Great Tenor/Lead/Bass/Bari
Learn some ways to sing your part better. Don't miss these classes.

Music Reading Session - Max of 25 students per class
Read through the latest Society arrangements - and KEEP the music.

Song Leading
Have you ever been called on to direct a song and you didn't know what you were doing? In this class you learn posture, directing patterns and fundamental directing techniques. Don't miss it!

Thursday Night Mini Classes:
` Sight Singing
- This class will give you the fundamentals of reading music. You will need a copy of "Music Reading I" available in the Barbershopper's Shop.
` Tag Singing - Get together with some friends for two hours of nothing but singing tags.
` Woodshedding - This is how Barbershop started, so spend two hours going back to the roots of our great hobby.
` Vocal Production for Chorus Directors and Coaches- Learn some of the Fundamentals of proper singing and how to teach those concepts to others.
` Society Judging Program (3 hours)- Learn the basics of the judging Program. This class can be used toward director certification.
` Coaching Apprentice- This session is for folks who signed up for the Apprentice classes on Friday and/or Saturday. See that description.
` Presentation For Dummies- Learn some basic techniques for developing an appropriate and effective performance plan for a song.

History of Barbershop Harmony
Learn the musical origins of the Barbershop style and trace the development of that style through the years by listening to a wide variety of quartets. This class can be used toward director certification.

Young Men In Harmony
The YMIH program is designed for college, high school, and middle school quartets. Moderated by Gary Plaag, M-AD YMIH VP and John Weber, YMIH assistant. All chapters should do their best to send youth quartets from their local areas. What a wonderful way to plant the seed of the Barbershop style! Computer Music Notation
Learn how to notate music on a computer, including using a midi instrument.

Learn to recognize and present the comedy inherent in music and parodies more effectively.
